Finally figured out why the !UserPreferences/Login feature wasn't working as intended on this wiki.
The default theme (''monobook'') includes a custom ''username'' method that's based on older code.
Patching the theme to use a slightly-tweaked version of the base class fixed it, si I'll now revert all the changes I made
to make logging in easier.
