The mystery of the infinite recursive loop between pkg-config and gnome-config as described in Bug #445981 was solved by a commenter on that bug. It's a little-known fact that pkg-config falls back to trying gnome-config and a few other *-config utilities when it can't find the .pc file that it's looking for. I created a fixed gnome-libs package to alleviate the problem, built it for Rawhide, and created update packages for Fedora 8 and 9.
Raised Bug #448735 on perl in Fedora 9; the i386 version has an @INC path that includes module directories for older perl versions, and the x86_64 version doesn't. There are also a bunch of packages that include perl modules located in old perl directories rather than 5.10.0 directories that Fedora 9's perl should be looking in.
