Paul Howarth (Manchester City)

Background

I was born in 1965, with a Burnley-supporting father and Liverpool-supporting mother. My earliest recollections of supporting a football team, whilst at primary school, were of favouring the Evil Empire. So how did I end up a Blue?

It's really down to my best mate at the time (when I was 8), Glyn Nuttall, who was the sole City fan in my class. I lived in Rossendale, around twenty miles north of Manchester, and the majority of my classmates supported either United, Liverpool, or Leeds (who were a great side at the time). He persuaded me to stop following the crowd and be a City supporter instead. It wasn't that hard a decision to make really, because this was the era of arguably City's best-ever side, featuring the likes of Francis Lee, Mike Summerbee and Colin Bell, who was to become my childhood hero.

I intend to expand this page describing my life as a Manchester City fan, along the lines of Roger Haigh's story, so come back soon if you're interested...
